Manu and the Fish ( story in a box -3)

The story of king Manu and the fish is very fascinating as it talks about how we turned true humans when he saved a fish from larger fishes from being eaten up. ( the law of the jungle – big fish eats small fish). A small fish appoached the king Manu to rescue him from bigger fishes and in return he will save the kingdom from the flood which was coming their way. Manu saved the fish and kept him in a pot but the fish kept growing and he had to change the pot everyday. Soon he had to take the fish to the river as he didn’t have a bigger pot to hold the fish for a longer time. When the floods destroyed the Kingdom, the fish developed a horn and they tied a boat to the horn which took the king and his people to the himalayas.

This story signifies that humans seek culture and civilisation and the seed to civilization is to protect the weak and selective few. The law of the jungle is universal law and when we try to build civilisation we break this law of nature. We are humans only because we build a culture and a civilization. However we must know were to draw the line and balance our desire for civilisation versus letting the law of the jungle takes its our course.
